OSCEOLA, FLA.: The Southwest Minnesota State softball team lost 1-0 in eight innings to No. 5 Lock Haven on Thursday morning at the Rebel Spring Games in Florida. SMSU is now 7-4.
The loss spoiled a solid outing by Amanda Johnson, who allowed just three hits and struck out five.
With the international tiebreaker rule placing a runner at second to start the inning, Lock Haven advanced her to third on a base hit, before a grounder to second brought the winning run in as the throw home was too late.
LHU's Kristin Erb, a first team All-America honoree last year, struck out 11 Mustang batters and allowed just four hits.
Erin Dickhausen led SMSU with two hits, while Amanda Burkhart and Kiley Petersen each had one.
Southwest wraps up its trip to Florida at noon when it faces C.W. Post (N.Y.).
