Southwest Minnesota State baseball has had tremendous success playing at home since the program began in 1970.
Under head coach Paul Blanchard, the success has been even more impressive as SMSU has racked up a home mark of 104-41 since 1997, including a perfect 12-0 in 1999.
SMSU is 46-18 at Alumni Field since moving all of its home games to the on-campus ballpark in 2003.
Included in the all-time home record is not only the home games played at Legion Field or Alumni Field, but the many "home" games SMSU has played in the area including in the communities of Cottonwood, Tracy, Milroy, and Lamberton.
The Southwest Minnesota State baseball complex on the north end of campus has become one of the top college fields in the Upper Midwest.
Over the last several years, Alumni Field has seen numerous changes and continues to see changes every year. Recently, two hitting cages have been added, as well as a new irrigation system, new backstop, new scoreboard, press box, grandstand, and a batter's eye in centerfield.
During the summer of 2007, Alumni Field has received a new sod infield along with a drainage system to help handle heavy rains and drain melting snow in the spring. Plywood fencing is also in the process of being added to the fences down the third and first base sides.
