The Southwest Minnesota State softball team opened a new field in 2008. It is located next to Mustang Field (soccer) and the new football practice fields on the north end of the SMSU campus.
SMSU softball has enjoyed great success at home, posting an all-time home record of 201-123. The Mustangs went 11-2 in 2006, their best home record since going 12-1 in 1993. Additionally, the Mustangs have hosted the NSIC Tournament the past two seasons as regular season champions.
