NSIC Coaches Pick SMSU Fifth in Preseason Poll

Andrea Fennern was named a "Player to Watch" for the upcoming NSIC softball season.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced Thursday that the Southwest Minnesota State softball team has been picked fifth in its preseason coaches’ poll. The Mustangs received 143 points in the poll, which was voted on by the NSIC’s head coaches. SMSU’s Andrea Fennern and Ali Honken were also named “Players to Watch.”

Defending NSIC Tournament champion Winona State received 11 first-place votes and 179 points to take the top spot in the poll. Wayne State, Minnesota State and Augustana fell in ahead of SMSU.

SMSU Receives Votes in NFCA Preseason Poll

NFCA PRESEASON POLL

MARSHALL, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State softball team received votes in the 2010 Preseason Division II Top 25 Poll released Wednesday by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association. The Mustangs received six votes but did not make the top 25 in the poll, which is voted on by head coaches from each of the eight NCAA Division II regions.

Alabama-Huntsville received 14 first-place votes and 398 points to take the top spot. NSIC neighbor Winona State took the No. 3 spot, receiving one first-place vote and 345 points.
