Graf Named to Academic All-District First Team

MARSHALL, MINN. -  Southwest Minnesota State volleyball player Sara Graf was named to the Academic All-District V first team Thursday by ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA.  The announcement came from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Graf, a 5-foot-10 junior setter, boasts a 3.92 GPA as an accounting major at SMSU.

The Mount Pleasant, Iowa, native has compiled 1,130 assists (10.97/set) so far this season to go along with 85 kills (0.83/set), 41 service aces (0.40/set), 206 digs (2.00/set) and 45 blocks (0.44/set).

Graf is the SMSU school record holder for assists in a season with 1,671 in 2007, assists per set in a single season with 13.48 in 2007 and assists in a single match with 73 against Minnesota State Moorhead this year.  She is also No. 3 in career assists at SMSU with 3,257 in her tenure as a Mustang.

This is the second selection to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District for Graf as she also received third team honors last season.

Graf was one of eight players from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference to be named to the first, second or third team Academic All-District.  The District V College Division Academic All-District team features players from NCAA Division II and III and NAIA in the region.

SMSU, ranked No. 6 in the nation, is currently 24-4 overall and 13-3 in the NSIC.  The Mustangs travel to Minnesota State, Mankato on Saturday to take the Mavericks in a 4 p.m. conference match.
