Box Score

OSCEOLA, FLA.: Amanda Johnson struck out 17 on Monday morning as Southwest Minnesota State defeated Central Missouri State 4-1 at the Rebel Spring Games.  SMSU is now 3-2 this spring.

Johnson's 17 strikeouts broke her own previous record set on Mar. 15, 2006, against Minnesota Duluth when she fanned 16.  On Monday, she allowed just four hits and did not walk a batter.

The Mustangs scored all four of their runs in the fifth inning.  Jessica Paczosa hit a one-out single to short and advanced to second on a base hit to left by Kiley PetersenErin Dickhausen followed with an RBI single to left, scoring Paczosa.  After a strikeout, Amanda Opatz reached on a fielder's choice as Petersen came home.  Opatz hit a swinging bunt to the left side.  Central Missouri tried to tag Petersen out at home, but the catcher dropped the throw on a close play at the plate to keep the inning alive.  Amanda Burkhart capped the inning with a two-run double to score Dickhausen and Opatz.

Paczosa led the offense with three hits and Burkhart had two hits, including her two-run double.  Dickhausen tied the SMSU career runs batted in record with the 104th of her career in the fifth inning.

CMSU scored its only run on a home run in the seventh.
