OSCEOLA, FLA.: The Southwest Minnesota State softball team lost 3-2 to No. 17 C.W. Post on Thursday in its final game at the Rebel Spring Games in Florida. The loss drops SMSU to 7-5 this season.
SMSU ran into trouble early, as starter Angie Rohne allowed three runs, while recording just one out in the first inning, before surrendering to Amanda Johnson. Johnson struck out the final two C.W. Post batters in the first inning to stop the rally and pitched the final 6.2 innings, striking out 11, while allowing just four hits.
The Mustangs got on board in the third inning as Erin Dickhausen drove in Jessica Paczosa. Amanda Tucci followed Dickhausen's single with a base hit of her own, as Dickhausen scored SMSU's second run.
That was all Southwest would manage, though SMSU had two opportunities. Amanda Burkhart led off the fourth inning with an infield single, but was unable to advance past first base. Dickhausen hit a two-out triple in the fifth inning, but C.W. Post pitcher Samantha Yodowitz was able to get a strikeout to end the inning. Dickhausen's triple tied the SMSU career triples record with the 19th of her career.
The Mustangs will travel home Friday and head to Missouri for four games next weekend.
