KISSIMMEE, Fla. - The Southwest Minnesota State softball team went scoreless in a pair of contests at the Rebel Spring Games on Wednesday in Kissimmee, Fla., falling to Wisconsin-Parkside 1-0 and Nebraska-Omaha 1-0.
The two losses drop SMSU to 8-12 overall.
The Mustangs' battle with UWP saw just one run--that coming in the first inning when SMSU's
Andrea Fennern made a diving stop from her spot at third but threw a wild ball to first base. The error allowed a Ranger runner to score from third.
UWP posted five hits off Mustang hurler
Amanda Johnson. Johnson pitched a complete game and struck out five batters.
SMSU collected three hits, with
Krista Steen singling in the second and
Christine Borowiak singling in the fourth and leading off the seventh with a double.
The offense continued to be lax for SMSU against UNO as the Mavericks held the Mustangs scoreless again.
Ali Honken took the loss on the mound, striking out seven and giving up five hits in 6.0 innings of work.
With the game stalemated at 0-0, the Mavericks christened the fourth inning with a solo homerun to take a 1-0 lead. UNO settled on that for the final score.
Amanda Tucci, Steen and Borowiak all had hits for SMSU.
The Mustangs finish play in the Rebel Spring Games tomorrow, taking on UNO at 2 p.m. CST and meeting up with Central Missouri at 4 p.m.
