Box Score

MARSHALL, MINN.:
The Southwest Minnesota State soccer team fell 2-0 to Concordia-St. Paul in a non-conference match in Marshall on Saturday afternoon.  SMSU drops to 0-5-1 and CSP improves to 2-5-2.

Battling windy conditions, the game was decided by who could score with the wind at their backs.  Despite peppering 13 shots and five on goal in the first half with the wind to their advantage, the Mustangs could not find the back of the net.  Concordia took advantage of the wind in the second half, scoring both of its goals during that period.  Hillary Johnson found the net first in the 54th minute after she broke ahead of the Mustang defense and fired to Kayla Borstad's left.  CSP put the match away in the 82nd minute as Kari Janes scored her first goal of the season for the Golden Bears after a turnover by SMSU at the top of its box.

The Mustangs had plenty of opportunities in the first half, perhaps the best opportunity coming just over five minutes into the match as Emily Barnes' header from five yards away was saved by Keyton Wheelock.  Heather Anderson and Lisa Fleming each recorded two shots on goal during the match to lead the Mustangs.  Borstad made six saves on the day in goal.

SMSU hosts Augustana College (S.D.) on Sunday at noon at Mustang Field.
