Zach Wysong (2005-09) was a four-year letter winner for the SMSU football program, closing his career as the program’s all-time leading rusher, while demonstrating he was one of the most versatile running backs in team history.
Following a redshirt season in 2005, Wysong, a native of Hills, Minn., made a major impact during his first season of play in 2006, rushing for a team-high 603 yards and five touchdowns, while ranking fourth on the team with 22 receptions for 189 yards. The following season, Wysong earned All-NSIC honorable mention honors, rushing for a team-high six touchdowns, while amassing 651 yards on the ground. He also finished third on the team with 35 receptions for 368 yards and a team-high five touchdowns.
Wysong reached the 1,000-yard rushing mark as a junior in 2008, carrying the ball 234 times for 1,016 yards and nine touchdowns. He also led the team with 64 receptions for 470 yards and one touchdown in helping the Mustangs to their first winning season in nine years. He was named All-NSIC second team, while leading the NSIC in all-purpose yardage.
Wysong closed his career in 2009 earning All-NSIC second team once again, leading the Mustangs with 905 yards rushing with five touchdowns.
Wysong is the only Mustang player to lead the team in rushing all four seasons. He finished his career ranking first in school history in rushing yards (3,175), rushing attempts (664), rushing yards per games (73.8), second in rushing touchdowns (25), second in all-purpose yards (4,818) and fourth in scoring (206).
