MARSHALL, Minn. - Freshman
Lavione West scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed seven rebounds to help lead Southwest Minnesota State to an 85-71 exhibition game victory over St. Olaf on Tuesday night.
SMSU outrebounded St. Olaf 57-30 in the game including grabbing 25 offensive rebounds. Junior
Taylor Huseby poured in 14 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds for SMSU, while senior
Nick Dale also added a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
SMSU, which never trailed in the game, led 43-26 at half but committed 16 turnovers in the game allowing the Oles to trim a 22-point second half deficit down to just three points at 70-67 with 4:52 left in the game. SMSU answered back with a 9-2 run over the next two and a half minutes to seal the victory.
SMSU shot 43.6 percent from the field (34 of 78), but was just 3 of 20 from three-point range and 14 of 20 from the free throw line.
Mark Wieloch led St. Olaf off the bench with 19 points on 7 of 11 shooting including drilling five three-pointers. St. Olaf as a team connected on nine three-pointers.
SMSU will have another exhibition game next Monday, Nov. 9, hosting Gustavus.
