MARSHALL, Minn. – The Southwest Minnesota State University athletics department held its fifth annual “Mustang Shootout” at Shooter's Sporting Clays in Marshall on Saturday, Sept. 11.
Proceeds from the event, sponsored by Marshall Radio and Shooter's Sporting Clays, go towards student-athlete scholarships at SMSU.
A record number 93 individuals participated in the event with individual first place honors going to Lance Hurd from LeMars, Iowa. Doug Lemke from Ceylon, Minn., finished in second place, while Mark Maschoff of Ceylon, Minn., earned third place.
The team champion, sponsored by Ralco Nutrition of Marshall, included Ryan Wendland, Doug Lemke, Mark Maschoff and Loren Anderson, while the team of Chet Lockwood, Gary Hurd, Jeff Iverson, Dan Schneider and Lance Hurd, sponsored by Lockwood Motors of Marshall, earned second place honors.
Drew Benson from Cottage Grove, Minn., won the Champion of Champions shoot-off. The special competition featured this year's champion and the four previous individual Mustang Shootout champions.
The Grand Prize drawing, a grill donated by Running's Farm & Fleet in Marshall, was won by Nathan Buysee.
