Hello Mustang Fans!
The holiday season is fast approaching, and students will be finishing up their final exams next week. This Friday and Saturday marks the last home athletic events (SMSU Wheelchair Basketball) until January 1, when the Mustang Women’s and Men’s Basketball teams will host the first NSIC action of 2011 on January 1 & 2 with the University of Minnesota Crookston and Minnesota State University Moorhead coming to Marshall.
A few dates to mark on the calendar for 2011. On Saturday, January 29, the SMSU Athletics Department will be hosting Hawaiian Night as the SMSU Women’s and Men’s Basketball teams and our fans will welcome Winona State to the R/A Facility. On Friday, February 25, the Mustang Booster Club will be hosting the Mustang Gold Rush Raffle, a social event everyone looks forward to in the mid-winter months. These two events have become great traditions for SMSU, the Marshall Community and for all of southwestern Minnesota.
The SMSU Wrestling (1-0-1) competed last night at the University of Sioux Falls in Sioux Falls, SD taking on USF and a club team from Wayne State College. On Saturday, the Mustangs will travel to Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA for their third dual meet of the season.
The Mustang Men’s Basketball team (5-1, 2-0 NSIC) will be traveling for its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference games of the season on the road this weekend. The Mustangs will begin a four-game NSIC road trip over the next two weekends. SMSU will face St. Cloud State University (2-4, 1-1 NSIC) on Friday, at Halenbeck Hall starting at 8:00 pm. On Saturday, the Mustangs will face Concordia University (4-2, 1-1 NSIC) with tip-off slated for 6:00 pm at CU’s Gangelhoff Center.
The SMSU Women’s Basketball team (2-4, 1-1 NSIC) will also be in action on Friday at St. Cloud State (4-2, 1-1 NSIC) with the women’s game beginning at 6:00 pm before traveling to Concordia-St. Paul (1-5, 0-2 NSIC) to take on the Golden Bears at 4:00 pm on Saturday in the Gangelhoff Center. SMSU split last weekend beating Augustana College on Friday and losing to Wayne State College on Saturday.
The Mustang Wheelchair Basketball team (6-0 overall) returns to action this Friday as the Mustangs play host to University of Wisconsin, Whitewater with the contest starting at 7:00 pm at the R/A Facility. SMSU will conclude the weekend series against Whitewater with a second game on Saturday beginning at 10:00 am.
Good luck to all of our Mustang Teams this week. Go Mustangs!
