Hello Mustang Fans!
The craziness continues this weekend as we will host Mustang Wrestling (Thursday), Wheelchair Basketball (Saturday and Sunday), Women’s Basketball and Men’s Basketball (both Friday and Saturday night) starting tonight with wrestling at 7:00pm in the PE Gym. This is a great opportunity to bring the family out to the campus of SMSU on Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday and cheer on the Mustangs.
Coach Culhane is on the road to recovery after suffering a heart attack just two weeks ago. He is doing a lot of resting and has begun his cardiac rehabilitation program this week.
The SMSU Wrestling team will host its first dual of the season today with the meet is set to begin at 7:00 pm at the PE Gym. The Mustangs have had individual successes in each of the open tournaments the team has attended while having a 1-0 overall record on the season with a dual win against St. Olaf College last week. Come out to the PE Gym tonight to see the Mustangs in action at home for the first time this season.
All NSIC wrestling matches are video broadcast live free of charge by New Media TV. Log onto www.northernsun.org/live.cfm to learn more and to watch the Mustangs when they are on the road! Or go to www.smsumustangs.com and click on the Live Video Webcasts tab on the right hand side of the page.
The SMSU Men’s Basketball team (3-1, 0-0 NSIC) men’s basketball team opens the 22-game Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season this weekend hosting a pair of games at the R/A Facility in Marshall. Wayne State will open conference play on Friday night at Minnesota State, Mankato before taking on SMSU.
The SMSU Women’s Basketball team (1-3, 0-0 NSIC) will also open the NSIC portion of its schedule this weekend hosting No. 17 Augustana on Friday and welcome No. 18 Wayne State on Saturday with both contests scheduled to begin at 6:00 pm.

The Mustang Wheelchair Basketball program returns to action this weekend with three home games. The Mustangs, off to a 6-0 start, will face the Madonna Magic, a community team from the Omaha, NE, on Saturday, starting at 1:00 pm at the R/A Facility. SMSU will conclude the weekend with two more games versus Madonna starting at 10:00 am on Sunday.
I have to correct myself on last week’s Mustang Hoofprints Trivia Question. Dave Drown did provide the correct answer to last week’s trivia question while we were sitting together at Mike’s Café Thursday morning. He named all four sports (wrestling, women’s golf, men’s basketball and volleyball) we have hosted regional tournaments for on the campus of SMSU.
Good luck to all of our Mustang Teams this week. Go Mustangs!
Last week, we had many responses to the question, but no one provided the correct answer to the Mustang Hoofprints Trivia Question: How many student-athletes does SMSU have participating in the eleven sports sponsored by the University? The SMSU Athletics Department has 322 student-athletes who participate in eleven sports at SMSU.
Hoofprints Trivia Question (please put this in a box with the title on top)
What Mustang Men’s Basketball player has scored the most overall points in SMSU history?
The first person to email me at MustangHoofPrints@SMSU.edu with the correct answer to this question will receive an SMSU t-shirt. The winner will be announced on The Saturday Morning Mustang Show between 9:00 am and 10:00 am on 1400AM each week.
