The Gold Rush Raffle Committee has begun the planning for the 8th Annual Gold Rush Raffle hosted by the Mustang Booster Club on Friday, February 25 in the SMSU Conference Center Ballroom. Tickets are just $50.00 each for your chance to win the grand prize of $5,000. If you are interested in purchasing a ticket call the athletic department at 507-537-7204.
If you have not been to the Gold Rush Raffle, you should buy a raffle ticket and join us for a night of fun, friendship and laughter. Every year, the raffle gets great reviews from the people who attend. It is a mid-winter social event that you will not want to miss with cash prizes, give-aways, mystery prizes, games, and silent and live raffle items. The Gold Rush is sponsored by the Mustang Booster Club and has sold out all six years. Here is a rundown of the Mustang Booster Club and SMSU Athletics Department special events coming up in January and February:
2011 Alumni Basketball Weekend Saturday, January 22 (An all day event for the Alumni beginning at 11:00am)
Hawaiian Night Saturday, January 29 @ 6:00 pm/8:00 pm (Women’s & Men’s BB vs
Winona State)
Gold Rush Raffle Friday, February 25 @ 6:00 pm (Social Hour)
Hall of Honor Saturday, February 26 @ 1:00 pm
The SMSU Women’s Basketball team (3-9, 2-6 NSIC) will travel to Mankato, MN to take on MSU (7-5, 4-4 NSIC) in NSIC action on Saturday with the game beginning at 2:00 pm at the Taylor Center on the campus of Minnesota State University. SMSU will continue the road trip next weekend (January 14-15) when they travel to the University of Mary and Northern State for a pair of NSIC games. Both games are slated for a 6:00 pm start.
The SMSU Men’s Basketball team (6-6, 3-5 NSIC) also hits the road on Saturday has they too battle conference-leading and No. 12 MSU (11-1, 7-1 NSIC) starting at 4:00 pm. Following this Saturday’s game, the SMSU Men’s Basketball team will join the Women’s Basketball team as they compete against University of Mary and Northern State next Saturday and Sunday. This will conclude the first half of the 22-game conference season for both the Mustang Men’s and Women’s teams. SMSU plays seven of its first 11 conference games on the road.
Congratulations to the Mustang Wrestling team, who received votes in the latest edition of the NCAA Division II wrestling rankings released by the NCAA Division II Wrestling Coaches Association released today. In the individual rankings, SMSU’s Brian Rodas is ranked No. 8 at 285 pounds.
The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference earned four spots in he top-20 in this week’s edition of the rankings. St. Cloud State currently ranks second while Augustana (S.D.) is ranked third. Minnesota State cracked the poll at seventh and Upper Iowa landed at 11th. Along with the Mustangs, MSU Moorhead received votes in the coaches’ poll this week.
The SMSU Wrestling team will pick up action on January 19 in a triangular with Dakota Wesleyan and Northwestern (Iowa) beginning at 4:30 pm in Mitchell, S.D.
The Mustang Wheelchair Basketball team (6-1 overall) will return to action January 15-16 as the Mustangs play host to the Timberwolves with the set at 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm on January 15 and 10:30 am on January 16. The following weekend (Jan. 21-23), the Mustangs will head to Champagne, IL for the College Conference Wheelchair Basketball Tournament
