Hello Mustang Fans!
This Saturday, the SMSU Women’s Basketball program and the Affiliated Community Medical Center will partner to sponsor Breast Cancer Awareness night during both our basketball games. The event will feature educational displays, a number of activities throughout the night leading up to halftime of the Mustang Men’s Basketball games where students and student-athletes have volunteered to donate their hair to Locks of Love. Head Women’s Basketball Coach, Allison Kruger, has asked all fans attending Saturday’s games to sport their best pink outfit.
This year’s Gold Rush Raffle hosted by the Mustang Booster Club will be on Friday, February 25 in the SMSU Conference Center Ballroom. Tickets are just $50.00 each for your chance to win the grand prize of $5,000. If you are interested in purchasing a ticket call the athletic department at 507-537-7204. The tickets are starting to go fast, so please contact us today to secure your opportunity to win some great prizes and be part of an enjoyable social atmosphere.
If you have not been to the Gold Rush Raffle, you should buy a raffle ticket and join us for a night of fun, friendship and laughter. Every year, the raffle gets great reviews from the people who attend. It is a mid-winter social event that you will not want to miss with cash prizes, give-aways, mystery prizes, games, and silent and live raffle items. The Gold Rush is sponsored by the Mustang Booster Club and has sold out all six years. Gold Rush Raffle Friday, February 25 @ 6:00 pm (Social Hour)
Hall of Honor Saturday, February 26 @ 1:00 pm
The SMSU Women’s Basketball team (7-14, 6-11 NSIC) returns home this weekend for a pair of NSIC games. The Mustangs welcome Concordia-St. Paul (13-8, 12-5 NSIC) on Friday night before playing host to St. Cloud State (10-11, 7-10 NSIC) on Saturday.
The SMSU Men’s Basketball team (9-12, 6-11 NSIC) men’s basketball team, currently in 11th place in the NSIC standings, returns home this weekend for a pair of home games at the R/A Facility in Marshall, MN.
On Friday, SMSU will take on sixth place Concordia University, St. Paul (13-8, 10-7 NSIC) beginning at 8:00 pm
SMSU will conclude the weekend on Saturday, taking on St. Cloud State University (12-9, 11-6 NSIC), currently tied for fourth place. Mustang Women’s Basketball will start at 6:00 pm both nights with the men’s tip-off slated for 8:00 pm.
The SMSU Wrestling team (5-3-1, 1-3 NSIC) will hit the road for its first road NSIC dual of the season. The Mustangs are set to take on No. 8 Minnesota State (8-4, 4-1 NSIC) today with action beginning at 7:00 pm at Bresnan Arena in Mankato. SMSU will return home on Friday for its final home dual of the season against Buena Vista (Iowa) (4-8, 2-7 IIAC) at 7:00 pm in the PE Gym. The Mustangs are coming off a big NSIC victory over the #20 ranked MSU Moorhead Dragons last Saturday.
The Mustang Wheelchair Basketball team (9-5 overall) will be back in action this Friday and Saturday when they head to the University of Missouri to compete in four games. The Mustangs will take on the University of Illinois, University of Missouri, University of Texas, Arlington and Edinboro University.
Congratulations to Mustang Wheelchair Basketball Student-athlete Trisha Kienitz has been invited to tryout for the Under-25 Women’s National Team. Kienitz, a native of Raymond, Minn., is in her first season on the wheelchair basketball team at Southwest Minnesota State. The freshman also competes on the women’s golf team at SMSU.
The SMSU Tennis team opens NSIC play against the University of Mary on Saturday with the dual match set to begin at 6:30 pm in Sioux Falls, S.D.

Leslie Jacobsen was inducted in the SMSU Hall of Honor in 2002, and in 2005 Jacobsen was inducted into the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Hall of Fame .
