March 31, 2011 – Hoof Prints Article

Hello Mustang Fans!

We are less than a week away from seeing one of the most entertaining sports teams to take their show on the road.
The SMSU Athletics Department is proud to announce that the Harlem Globetrotters 2011 "4 Times the Fun" North American tour will make an appearance in Marshall next Wednesday, April 6, at the R/A Facility on the campus of SMSU. This game-changing innovation will be on display when the Globetrotters take on the Washington Generals starting at 7:00 pm with doors opening at 6:00 pm.  Tickets, starting at $25, are on sale now by calling the SMSU athletics office at 507-537-7271 or at www.ticketweb.com.  Information on group and scout tickets can also be found at www.harlemglobetrotters.com.  Tickets can also be purchased at the gate prior to tip-off.

The Harlem Globetrotters, who have contributed more innovations to the game of basketball than any other team in history, have implemented the first-ever 4-point shot as part of all of its games on the team’s record 85th season of touring. The Globetrotters last played in Marshall on April 7, 2003.  This is a great event to bring the entire family out to the R/A Facility and experience basketball like you have not seem it before.

Right around the corner, the Mustang Booster Club will host the 2011 Mustang Golf Classic featuring a change in the format for this year’s event. The Golf Classic will become a two-day event this year with the traditional 18 hole, 5-person scramble golf tournament on Friday, June 24 at the Marshall Golf Club (MGC). On Friday night following the golf tournament, the Mustang Booster Club will host a social at MGC open to golfers and community members with entertainment, appetizers, beverages, a silent auction and concluding the programming with a live auction.

Saturday, June 25, the Mustang Booster Club will host a second 18 hole, 5-person scramble golf tournament at the Tyler Golf Club in Tyler, MN. Both tournaments are tentatively scheduled to have a shotgun start beginning at 11:00am. Please save the dates on your calendar and be looking for more information in my future Hoofprints articles as well as at SMSUMustangs.com.

The SMSU Baseball team 4-7 overall lost a non-conference game to Augustana College yesterday afternoon. The Mustangs will open Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action this weekend taking on the University of Mary in a four-game series in Sioux City, Iowa, at Sioux City North High School. Saturday’s doubleheader begins at 1:30 pm, while Sunday’s twinbill begins at 12:00 pm.

The SMSU Softball team (12-8 0-0 NSIC) is set to open the 2011 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference schedule on Saturday hosting Bemidji State (1-7, 0-0 NSIC) in a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm. The Mustangs will then welcome Minnesota Duluth (11-9, 0-0 NSIC) for a doubleheader at noon on Sunday. Both series will be played on Mattke Field at the Regional Event Center at SMSU due to poor field conditions at the SMSU softball field.

The SMSU Tennis team (3-9, 3-5 NSIC) will close-out the 2011 regular season with three NSIC matches this weekend at the Huether Tennis Centre in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Mustangs are set to take on Northern State (4-6, 1-5 NSIC) at 10:00 am on Saturday before playing Augustana (13-2, 6-0 NSIC) at 5:00 pm. SMSU will then play its final regular season match on Sunday taking on Minnesota Duluth (5-8, 4-3 NSIC) at 11:30 am.

The Mustang Women’s Golf team will be back in action on April 9-10 as they compete in the Augustana Invite in Sioux Falls, SD.

Good luck to all of our Mustang Teams this week.

Go Mustangs!
