Also on tap for this summer, the Mustang Booster Club will host the 2011 Mustang Golf Classic featuring a change in the format for this year’s event. The Golf Classic will become a two-day event this year with the traditional 18 hole, 5-person scramble golf tournament on Friday, June 24 at the Marshall Golf Club (MGC). On Friday night following the golf tournament, the Mustang Booster Club will host a social at MGC open to golfers and community members with entertainment, appetizers, beverages, a silent auction and concluding the programming with a live auction.

Saturday, June 25, the Mustang Booster Club will host a second 18 hole, 5-person scramble golf tournament at the Tyler Golf Club in Tyler, MN. Both tournaments are tentatively scheduled to have a shotgun start beginning at 11:00am. Please save the dates on your calendar and be looking for more information in my future Hoofprints articles as well as at SMSUMustangs.com.

The Mustang Booster Club will be starting its Annual Membership Drive at the end of this month. We are always looking for passionate members of the Mustang Family to participate on one of our three membership drive teams. It is a fun event to take part in with lots of laughter, camaraderie and competitive spirit amongst the teams. If you are interested in finding out more about how to join a membership drive team, please contact Tim Steinbach at 507-537-7204.

I would like to welcome Anthony Kerr and his wife to the Mustang Family as Kerr joins the Mustang Football team as the linebackers coach and will take an active role with our special teams.

The SMSU Baseball team finished the 2011 season 11-25 overall, including 7-18 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference. Last weekend, the Mustangs split their final doubleheader of the year with Wayne State in Wayne, NE. This marks the first time in fifteen years the Mustang Baseball team has not made it to the NSIC Baseball Tournament. Congratulations to Coach Blanchard on a great run! Congratulations are also in order for outfielder,Tyler Fayden, for earning Second Team all NSIC honors for the second straight year.

The SMSU Softball team (29-19, 16-9 NSIC) ended their season last weekend going 1-2 in the NSIC Softball Tournament in Sioux Falls, SD. The Mustangs were not selected for NCAA Division II post-season action due to Regis University winning the RMAC Softball Tournament, a team that has not been ranked in the Central Region all year. Congratulations to Coach Semler, his staff and our softball players on a great season. Congratulations are also in order for pitcher, Ali Honken, for also earning Second Team all NSIC honors for the Mustangs.

Next week will be my last Mustang Hoofprints article of the 2010-11 sports season.
Go Mustangs!

No one was able to provide the correct answer to last week’s Mustang Hoofprints Trivia Question: How many years has SMSU been a member of NCAA Division II? SMSU and the NSIC became eligible for NCAA Division II Championship competition in 1995. SMSU has now been a member NCAA Division II for the past sixteen years.

Hoofprints Trivia Question (please put this in a box with the title on top)

How many years has Brian Brandt been the President of the Mustang Booster Club Executive Board?

The first person to email me at MustangHoofPrints@SMSU.edu with the correct answer to this question will receive an SMSU t-shirt.
