The competition will begin at 10:00am with each participant shooting 100 sporting clays with a number of opportunities for shooters to win a variety of prizes in the frenzy, flurry and other shooting activities included in the event. The Mustang Shootout is a fun way to support Mustang Athletics and get ready for the hunting season that will be here before you know it.
The SMSU Soccer team went 1-1 this last weekend losing to a very good University of Montana, Billings 3-0 in the first match. The Mustangs rebounded in game two last Sunday beating Colorado Christian 1-0 in a match where Colorado Christian controlled play in the first half but could not find the back of the net. SMSU was able to make some halftime adjustments allowing Vanesa Corona to score the matches only goal and help Sonya Smith to her first shutout in her first start at goalkeeper for the Mustangs.
The Mustangs will be back home this Saturday as they play host to St. Cloud State University in a non-conference match-up set for 12:00 pm at the Regional Event Center as part of the Ag Bowl festivities. Both SMSU and SCSU will start the Northern Sun Intercollegiate action next Saturday, September 17 in St. Cloud as the two teams will face-off for the second time this season.
The Mustang Football team (0-1, 0-0 NSIC) opens the 2011 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference season on Saturday taking on the University of Mary (1-0, 0-0 NSIC). Kickoff is slated for 5:00 pm at Mattke Field at the Regional Event Center. The Mustangs are looking to rebound following a 30-17 road loss to Northern State, while University of Mary is coming off a thrilling 31-24 home victory over Chadron State (Neb.) last week. The 2011 Ag Bowl will provide a great pre-game environment for all the Mustang supporters leading up to kick-off of the Mustangs home opener against the Marauders.
The SMSU Volleyball team (3-1) ranked 6th in the AVCA poll swept the No. 2 team in the country Central Missouri (2-2) in straight sets (25-18, 25-23, 25-15) in its final game of the Wildwood Lodge Volleyball Classic last Saturday. SMSU defeated Pittsburg State, Northern Michigan and Central Missouri with its only loss coming to NSIC rival Wayne State College.
The Mustang Volleyball team will travel this weekend to Denver, CO competing in the prestigious Colorado Premier Challenge. SMSU opens play on today against Lock Haven (Pa.) at noon MT before playing tournament host No. 11 Metro State (Colo.) at 7:00 pm MT. The Mustangs home opener will be on September 13 as they play host to Upper Iowa University at 7:00pm in the PE Gym.
The SMSU Women’s Golf team finished second to Augustana College, the defending NCAA Central Region champion, who shot a 306 to win the Augustana Labor Day Triangular at the par-71 Bakker Crossing Golf Course in Sioux Falls, SD on Monday. The Mustangs finished in second place with a team score of 321, while the University of Sioux Falls was third with a score of 329. KC Kane led SMSU with a tie for fourth place with a 6-over 77, while Marissa Campeau finished with a 7-over 78 to earn a sixth place finish.
