February 2, 2012 – Hoof Prints Article

Hello Mustang Fans!

Yesterday, the Mustang Football and Soccer teams announced their student-athletes who signed National Letters of Intent to attend SMSU and wear the Brown and Gold. The SMSU Football announced the signing of thirty-four student-athletes with a emphasis on the defensive side of the ball. The SMSU Soccer team announced the signing of ten student-athletes who will join the program in the fall of 2012. Congratulations to Mustang Football Head Coach, Cory Sauter and Mustang Soccer Head Coach, TJ Buchholz, and their coaching staffs for a great effort in bringing these forty-four student-athletes to SMSU and the community of Marshall.

We are a little over a month away from the mid-winter social event of the year. The Mustang Booster Club will be hosting the Gold Rush Raffle on Friday, February 24 in the SMSU Conference Center. The raffle tickets are available at the SMSU Athletic Department or you can buy a ticket from one of our many Mustang Booster Club members out selling in the community.

We sell 600 raffle tickets each year. Each Gold Rush Raffle Ticket ($50) will get the holder of the ticket entry into the February 24 evening event where they will enjoy beverages, appetizers, games, silent and live auctions, a great atmosphere and the chance to win $5,000.

In June, the Mustang Booster Club will be holding another great SMSU Tradition, the David and Carol Drown SMSU Golf Classic with an 18 hole, five-person scramble tournament on Friday, June 15 at the Marshall Golf Club followed by the awards ceremony, a meal, live and silent auctions, and games lasting all evening. We will conclude the event with an 18 hole, five-person scramble tournament at the Tyler Golf Club on Saturday, June 16 with an awards ceremony and social following the event. Please put these two events down on your calendar, today.

The SMSU Baseball program, along with The Hitching Post in Marshall, have partnered again this year for the 4th annual “Super Supper” to help support the SMSU baseball program. The Super Supper will take place a day after the this Sunday’s NFL Super Bowl on Monday, February 6, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at The Hitching Post on Highway 59 South in Marshall.
