January 9, 2014 – Hoof Prints Article

Hello Mustang Fans!

Next Monday, SMSU will be back in session and the spring semester begins. It is a busy time of the year for all our in- and off-season sports as they all will be utilizing our indoor facilities for workouts. Our spring sports join the winter sports as they start training for their season. All this activity will begin on Monday and continue through the end of the spring semester.

This weekend the  SMSU Indoor Track and Field program will compete in their first NCAA Division II competition as they head to Minnesota State University Mankato to compete in the Minnesota State Alumni Open  this Saturday at 11:00 a.m. We wish Coach Wolf, the coaching staff and our student-athletes the best of luck this weekend.

We are just a little over a month away from the Gold Rush Raffle which will be held on Friday, February 14 in the Conference Center Ballroom. Last year, the Gold Rush Raffle raised just over $53,000. This year, the committee has set a goal of raising over $75,000 with all proceeds from the Gold Rush Raffle going to aid the Mustang Booster Club’s effort to support SMSU Athletic Scholarships. The Mustang Booster Club contributed $100,000 to athletic scholarships in 2012-13. The SMSU Department of Athletics and the Mustang Booster Club look forward to hosting the mid-winter social event everyone looks forward to attending.

We did not have a correct response to last week’s Mustang Hoofprint’s Trivia Question: What was the first athletic competition held in the Recreation Athletic (R/A) Facility at SMSU? The first athletic event played in the R/A Facility was the SSU/Burger King Classic Volleyball Tournament played in mid-September as part of an NSIC Crossover.

Hoofprints Trivia Question (please put this in a box with the title on top)

In the history of the program, the SMSU Wrestling team is a perfect 4-0 against which NSIC school?

The first person to email me at MustangHoofPrints@SMSU.edu with the correct answer to this question will receive an SMSU t-shirt.
