Behind the scenes of SMSU’s 18 intercollegiate teams are not just dedicated coaches and talented athletes—but also a loyal community of supporters who fuel their success.

The Mustang Club, founded in 1969, plays a vital role in providing the resources our teams need to compete and thrive. Formerly known as the Mustang Booster Club, the Mustang Club directly supports athletic scholarships, team budgets, and enhanced experiences for our student-athletes.

Each fall, we launch our annual Membership Drive with a bold goal: Raise $100,000 to empower the next generation of Mustangs. These funds help provide life-changing academic and athletic opportunities, from state-of-the-art facilities to increased scholarships and essential support services.

As a Mustang Club member, you’re not just giving—you’re investing in student-athletes who proudly represent SMSU and our region at the NSIC and NCAA Division II levels.
Over the years, the Mustang Club has brought the community together through events like:

• The David & Carol Drown SMSU Golf Classic (est. 1985)
• The Mustang Gold Rush Raffle – over $1 million raised since 2004
• Historic gatherings like the Friends of the Mustangs dinner and game day socials

About the Mustang Club 
The Mustang Club is the official fundraising arm of the SMSU athletics department and combines several key areas all under one fundraising umbrella. Contributors to the Mustang Club have flexibility when making their donation. The goal of the Mustang Club is to expand membership to include even more alumni, families, supporters of Mustang Athletics.

The Mustang Club seeks to provide scholarship dollars for SMSU Athletics, to enhance the profile and visibility of the SMSU Athletics program, its teams and student-athletes, and to strengthen and establish positive relations within the community and alumni in support of SMSU Athletics.
