Gretchen Schwanz begins her second season as graduate assistant volleyball coach at SMSU in 2011.
Schwanz, of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., spent a year as an assistant volleyball coach at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. She also served as the head coach for the Norse junior varsity volleyball team. Schwanz has also spent time coaching track and field at East Ridge High School in Woodbury, Minn.
Schwanz helped coach the Luther College volleyball team to its first ever NCAA Division III tournament appearance. Schwanz also helped coach the East Ridge High School girls track and field team to a 2010 True Team State Title.
Schwanz was a three year letterwinner in volleyball at Luther College. She also served as team co-captain her senior year. Schwanz was the recipient of the "Norse Award" two consecutive years at Luther College.
Schwanz is currently pursuing her master's degree from SMSU in sports leadership.
