Sioux Falls, S.D.: The Sioux Falls Storm of United Indoor Football (UIF) recently announced that former Southwest Minnesota State University wide receiver Corey Walker will have his jersey retired on Saturday, June 17 in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Storm will have the ceremony at halftime of their home game versus Sioux City which starts at 7:05 p.m.
Walker, a native of St. Louis, Mo., who played at SMSU during the 1998 and 1999 seasons, holds every Sioux Falls Storm receiving record with 310 receptions for 3,203 receiving yards and 49 touchdown receptions. He also holds the Storm record for all-purpose yards with 3,244 and is second in team history in total points scored with 294.
Walker joined the Storm in 2001 and was a member of both the 2004 Pacific Conference Championship team and the 2005 UIF Championship team. After one game in 2006, Walker decided to retire from the indoor football game.
Corey has been a face of this organization for many years, said Colin Steen, Sioux Falls general manager. His records say a lot about his talents on the field, but if you ask anyone that played with Corey, his biggest asset was his positive presence, leadership and huge smile. We are excited for June 17 and the opportunity thank Corey for all his hard work and helping the Storm organization get to where we are at today.
Walker, a two-time honorable mention All-NSIC honoree, finished his two-year career at SMSU with 87 receptions for 1,268 yards and 13 touchdowns in 20 games. In nine games in 1998, he caught 45 passes for 669 yards and six touchdowns while in 1999 he finished the season with 42 receptions for 599 yards and seven touchdowns.
