Scott Talcott was named Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Special Teams Player of the Week on Monday. The announcement came from the NSIC offices in St. Paul. It was the third time Talcott has earned the honor.
Talcott, a senior from Sioux Falls, S.D., was a perfect 2-for-2 on field goal attempts, connecting from 45 and 37 yards in SMSU's win over Winona State. He was also a pefect 3-for-3 on PATs. Saturday's game was SMSU's first win over Winona State since 2000, snapping a seven-game losing streak to the Warriors, who are the defending NSIC champions.
Talcott currently ranks second in school history in field goals made with 26, just seven behind Nate Krull's (1997-2000) record of 33. Talcott ranks first in PAT kick percentage at 98.6 percent (71-for-72).
Southwest Minnesota State (3-3 overall, 3-2 NSIC) will travel to Augustana (S.D.) on Saturday, Oct. 11 for a 1 p.m. kickoff in Sioux Falls. The first place Vikings (2-0 in the NSIC South) currently hold a half-game lead over Mustangs (2-1 in the NSIC South) in the NSIC South Division.
