INDIANAPOLIS, IND. - The NCAA announced Sunday that the Southwest Minnesota State volleyball team received the No. 2 seed in the Central Region and will meet the No. 7 seed, Metro State (Colo.), at 2:30 p.m. in the first round of the NCAA tournament scheduled to start Thursday, Nov. 20. Concordia University, St. Paul took the No. 1 seed and will host the tournament.
This will be the fifth straight NCAA tournament appearance for SMSU and sixth overall. The Mustangs lost in the regional semifinals last season to eventual national champion Concordia-St. Paul.
MSC finished the regular season with an 18-8 record and 16-3 record in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The Roadrunners lost in the opening round of the RMAC tournament 3-2 to the Colorado School of Mines.
SMSU (27-5, 16-4 NSIC) last played MSC back in 1988, losing to the Roadrunners 3-0.
The Mustangs went 2-0 this season against a pair of RMAC teams, defeating Mesa State (Colo.) 3-0 and Adams State (Colo.) 3-2 in September.
Match times and ticket prices are expected to be announced Monday.
