- The Southwest Minnesota State wrestling team opened its season on Saturday by placing five wrestlers in the Bison Open hosted by North Dakota State in Fargo, N.D.

A trio of Mustang wrestlers captured sixth-place finishes, while two tied for fifth place.

Demond Carter posted sixth-place honors at 157 pounds, going 2-3 on the day.  Carter picked up both wins in his first two bouts, taking a 14-9 decision from St. Cloud State's Michael Cullen and charting a 15-4 major decision over Todd Reynolds of Concordia of Moorhead.

Logan McAlpin went 3-3 to also bring home a sixth-place finish at 165 pounds, while William Fate posted a 4-2 record to grab a sixth-place finish at 174 pounds.

At 184 pounds, SMSU's C.D. Johnson and Micah Larson split fifth-place honors.  Both had 2-2 records on the day.
