AVCA All-America Team
LEXINGTON, Ky. - The American Volleyball Coaches Association has announced that Southwest Minnesota State middle blocker
Devin Diedrich has been named to the 2009 Division II All-America third team, adding to the sophomore’s growing list of honors for the season.
The honor is the second All-America nod for Diedrich, who picked up honorable mention accolades last season from the AVCA. She is just the third Mustang volleyball player in school history to collect AVCA All-America first, second or third team honors; Erin Contons received first team honors in 2007 and second team honors in 2005 and 2006, while Kasey Loeslie was a third-team honoree in 2008.
Diedrich, a native of Braham, Minn., was named AVCA All-Central Region squad earlier this week. The sophomore was also named All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference this season and grabbed NSIC Offensive Player of the Week honors twice. She landed on the Augustana Invite and Colorado Premier Challenge all-tournament teams. Diedrich finished the 2009 season with a team-best 481 kills (4.08/set) and 91.0 blocks (0.77/set). She also led the conference in kills with 284 (4.18/set).
SMSU finished the 2009 season 25-8 (15-5 NSIC) and made its sixth straight and seventh overall NCAA tournament appearance.
