SMSU Drops 5-0 Decision to Winona State

MARSHALL, Minn. -
No. 3 seed Winona State scored three first inning runs and never looked back in earning a 5-0 victory over No. 1 seed Southwest Minnesota State in the winner's bracket final on Saturday afternoon in Marshall.

WSU now advances to the championship game and will play the winner between SMSU and Wayne State.

SMSU could only muster three hits in the game off of WSU starting pitcher Stacey Struzynski.  Meaghan Laetsch had two hits for SMSU, while Kiley Petersen collected SMSU's only other hit.  Struzynskie struck out 13 batters in the contest.

Amanda Johnson suffered the loss for SMSU, tossing six innings and allowing four runs on six hits with three strikeouts.

SMSU will now have to win three straight games to capture the NSIC tournament championship.
