Mary Groth Named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week for Second Consecutive Week

BURNSVILLE, Minn. - The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference announced today that Southwest Minnesota State sophomore middle blocker Mary Groth has been named offensive player of the week. 

Groth, a native of West Bend, Wis. led the Mustangs this weekend averaging 5.25 kills per game and 5.62 points per game, both second highest in the NSIC this week. She had 14 kills while hitting.464 and committing only one error in a 3-0 win over Augustana. The sophomore then went on to have a career match against No. 1 Wayne State. Groth led all players with a career-high 28 kills in the 3-2 win over the Wildcats.

This marks the second consecutive week, and second time this season Groth has been named NSIC Offensive Player of the Week. She is the seventh Mustang to be named player of the week by the NSIC this season.

Groth is joined by the Minnesota State duo of Samantha Dale and Brittany Stamer. Dale was named defensive player of the week while Stamer earned setter of the week honors. 

Southwest Minnesota State is coming off a weekend sweep over Augustana and top-ranked Wayne State. The Mustangs 16-2, 8-1 NSIC will travel to St. Cloud State on Friday, Oct. 15 to take on the Huskies at 7 p.m. Next SMSU will head to Concordia University, St. Paul to battle with the Golden Bears on Saturday at 4 p.m.
