MARSHALL, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State athletics department will hold its annual Pink Zone event on Saturday at the women's basketball game against Minnesota State, Mankato to help raise awareness about breast cancer and generate funds to help find a cure for the disease.
The first 500 women through the door at the game, which starts at 6 p.m., will receive a cosmetic gift bag sponsored by Affiliated Community Medical Center of Marshall.
Doctors from ACMC will also be serving free pink ice cream to children in attendance on Saturday for both the women's and men's game.
Anyone attending the game can also sign up for door prizes also donated by ACMC, including pink basketballs signed by the women's and men's basketball teams, a pink digital camera and pink i-Tunes giftcards. Drawings will be held throughout both the women's and men's game.
At halftime of the game, SMSU students Tory Brouwer, Jenna Perske,
Kady Telschow, Amber Williamson and Michelle Nichols will be donating their hair to Locks of Love. Urban Appeal is donating their services to cut and style the hair of those donating.
Pink Crocs and Pink Zone t-shirts will also be for sale at the game.
All proceeds from sales made on Saturday will go to American Cancer Society Relay for Life at SMSU and the Kay Yow/WBCA Breast Cancer Foundation. Lilibet's in Marshall is also donating 10 percent of any purchase made on Saturday to the same organizations.
