GAME 1 BOX SCORE
GAME 2 BOX SCORE

MARSHALL, Minn.
- Chelsey Evans tossed 9.1 innings and gave up just one run between two games to lead Southwest Minnesota State to a sweep over Minnesota State Moorhead Monday in Marshall.  The Mustangs topped the Dragons 7-2 and 6-4, getting a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning in Game 2 from Amanda Neumann that erased a 4-3 MSUM lead.

SMSU improves to 17-18 (10-10 NSIC), while MSUM drops to 5-35 (3-17 NSIC).

Evans threw 5.1 innings in Game 1 and finished the last 4.0 innings of Game 2 to move to 3-1 on the season.

Brittney Hallahan paced the Mustangs in the opening game, going 2 for 3 with four RBIs, including smashing her first career home run in the third inning.

Meaghan Laetsch, Amanda Voss and Andrea Fennern also each finished 2 for 3 for the Mustangs.

Hallahan opened scoring in the bottom of the first after leading off with a walk and advancing to third base on a Laetsch single and passed ball.  She was then driven in by a sacrifice fly from Christine Borowiak.

A pair of doubles from Voss and Hallahan and a triple from Fennern added two runs to SMSU's lead in the bottom of the second.

Hallahan pushed the Mustang advantage to 6-0 in the bottom of the third after she nailed her three-run homer to right center.

SMSU did not give up a run until the sixth inning.  Evans, who got her first start of the season, pitched one third of the sixth before Cortney Heim entered in relief and tossed a pair of illegal pitches to score one Dragon run.  Heim finished the inning with a pair of strikeouts.

Micki Seibring doubled in the bottom half of the inning to score one run for SMSU.

The Dragons scored one more run in the top of the seventh inning off a Mustang error, but SMSU brought in Neumann to close the game as she forced a groundout and recorded one strikeout.

Neumann tossed another 3.0 innings in Game 2 and came up huge offensively with her three-run homer in the sixth that gave SMSU the go-ahead run.

The Mustangs trailed 4-3 heading into the sixth inning.

SMSU had held a 3-0 lead through two innings of play.

Laetsch and Amy Dreessen teamed up to put up one run in the first inning as a double and single from each, respectively, pushed in that score.

Hallahan registered another double in the second inning that scored two runs.

But the Dragons used a pair of home runs off of Neumann in the top of the third to knot the game at 3-3.

Evans entered in the fourth inning after Neumann faced one batter and gave up a double.

MSUM took its first lead of the day in the fourth off a Mustang passed ball, giving the Dragons a 4-3 lead.

The score would stay there until the bottom of the sixth when Neumann took a 3-1 pitch with runners at first and second and sent it over the left field fence.

The Dragons failed to answer in the top of the seventh inning.

Evans finished the game's final 4.0 innings, not giving up a run and striking out three Dragon batters.

Eight different Mustangs collected one hit; Neumann's three RBIs were tops for the game.

SMSU will travel to Wayne State on Wednesday for an NSIC doubleheader.  First pitch is at 2 p.m.  To view live stats, click here.
