SMSU Set for NCAA Region Tournament

LAKE CITY, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State women's golf team begins play at the 2010 NCAA Super Regional Three Championships May 2-4 at The Jewel Golf Club in Lake City, Minn.

SMSU is making its second straight NCAA appearance and seventh all-time since the program started in 1997.

SMSU begins the three-round, 54-hole tournament on Sunday morning with sophomore KC Kane teeing off at 9:05.  Round two takes place on Monday, with the final round on Tuesday. 

The top three teams and the top three individuals not from the three top teams qualify for the NCAA National Championships on May 12-15, at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Arizona.

SMSU's highest finish in a regional tournament was third place in 2004.  The Mustangs have finished fourth three times (2002, 2005, 2006), sixth once (2003) and seventh once (2009). 

SMSU has had two individuals in school history compete at the NCAA Championships.  Laura Lundbohm finished 26th in 2001 and 22nd in 2003, while Erin Oakland finished 29th in 2004.
