Three Golfers Earn Scholar Athlete Honors

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The National Golf Coaches Association announced on Monday, July 5, that Southwest Minnesota State University freshmen Hayley Gudim, Katelyn Schwartz and Krista Weiszhaar has been named to the 2009-10 All-American Scholar Team.

A total of 494 women's collegiate golfers from NCAA Division I, II and III were recognized with this prestigious honor.  The criteria for selection to the All-American Scholar Athlete Team are some of the most stringent in all of college athletics.  The minimum cumulative GPA is 3.50 and student-athletes must have competed in at least 66 percent of the college's regularly scheduled competitive rounds during the year.

Gudim, a native of Isle, Minn., played in 14 rounds this season, compiling a 92.0 stroke average.  Her best round was a 10-over-par 82 in the second round of the Augustana Spring Invite.

Schwartz, a native of New Ulm, Minn., competed in 12 rounds this past season with a 111.7 stroke average.

Weiszhaar, a native of Harwood, N.D., finished with an 82.3 average in 20 rounds.  Her stroke average ranks tied for eighth best in school history.  Weiszhaar had seven rounds of sub-80, including a season-low 3-over-par 75 in second round of Wayne State Invite.  She finished tied for fourth out of 58 at NSIC championships and finished 24th out of 49 at NCAA regional championships.

Southwest Minnesota State qualified for the NCAA Regional Tournament for the second consecutive season this past spring and its seventh appearance in school history.
