MARSHALL, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State women's golf team opens its 14th season of competition this weekend competing in a triangular and a dual match in New Ulm and Marshall respectively.
SMSU will face Concordia-St. Paul and Minnesota State, Mankato in a triangular on Saturday at the New Ulm Country Club starting at 12 p.m., before completing the weekend with a dual versus Minnesota State at the Marshall Golf Club starting at 12 p.m. on Sunday.
Seventh-year head coach Ross Webskowksi has 10 players on this year's roster, including six letterwinners from last season's team and four true freshmen.
Junior
KC Kane, who set a school single-season record a season ago with a 79.6 stroke average in 20 rounds, leads SMSU in 2010-11. Kane, was named first team All-NSIC in 2010, is also the school's all-time leader with an 80.3 average.
Senior
Sarah Baukol also returns after recording a career-low 85.3 average last season, while senior Steph Bruns also is back after scoring a career-low 86.7 average in 2009-10. Sophomore
Krista Weiszhaar is also be one of team's top returners after finishing third on the team with an average of 83.2
The Mustangs made their second straight NCAA regional appearance and seventh overall last May and finished the championship in seventh place.
