THIS WEEK - The Southwest Minnesota State University women's basketball team (0-5, 0-1 NSIC) will return to Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play this weekend hosting a pair of games at the R/A Facility. The Mustangs will play Winona State (5-0, 1-0 NSIC) on Friday night at 6 p.m., before facing Upper Iowa (2-3, 0-1 NSIC) on Saturday at 5 p.m.
RADIO - Both games this weekend will be broadcast on 105.1 FM KARL with Ryan Rohlik handling play-by-play and Anthony Rohlik serving as analyst.
ABOUT WINONA STATE - The Warriors enter this weekend with a 5-0 record, including 1-0 in the NSIC as they opened up league play last Saturday with a win over Upper Iowa. Tara Roelofs powers the Warriors offense with her 11.8 points-per-game average and 3.2 assists a game while Kayle Timmerman is averaging 11.4 points a game. Hannah McGlone is leading WSU in rebounds with a 6.2 rebound average. Scott Ballard is in his ninth season as head coach at WSU with a record of 165-130.
WSU SERIES HISTORY - Southwest Minnesota State and Winona State will meet for the 73rd time on Friday night with SMSU holding a 44-29 advantage in a series that started back in 1974. SMSU leads 28-8 all-time in games played in Marshall. The teams split two games last season with SMSU defeating WSU in the R/A Facility. SMSU has won just two of the last 15 meetings since 2006. ABOUT UPPER IOWA - The Peacocks enter the weekend with a 2-3 overall record and 0-1 in NSIC. The Peacocks will play at the University of Sioux Falls Friday night. UIU opened up NSIC play last weekend against Winona State and suffered a 85-69 loss. Lindsay Carroll leds the Peacocks with her 14.2 points and 3.4 assists per-game average. Lauren Buck controls the boards with 9.0 boards per game. Carol Russel is in her fifth season with the Peacocks with a record of 16-93.
UIU SERIES HISTORY - Southwest Minnesota State and Upper Iowa will matchup for the 17th time on Saturday with the series knotted up at 8-8 in a series that started back in 2004. SMSU leads 5-3 in games played in Marshall. UIU has won the last five meetings in the series with SMSU's last victory coming on Dec. 17, 2011. SMSU head coach

MUSTANGS FALL IN FINAL NON-CONFERENCE GAME - Dakota Wesleyan used a 17-0 second half run to take down Southwest Minnesota State last Saturday 69-51 in Marshall. SMSU trailed 36-35 with 11:20 left in the second half, before DWU reeled off the game decisive run.
Lauren Hedlund led the Mustangs in numerous categories as she recorded her first career double-double with 20 points and 14 rebounds, while dishing out three assists.
Annessa Rosch contributed 11 points and
Emilee Duske recorded seven rebounds for the Mustangs.
