MANKATO, Minn. - The Southwest Minnesota State University women's and men's track & field teams opened the 2015 season today at the Minnesota State Alumni Open.
The SMSU men's 4x400 relay team earned first place with a time of 3:28.47, while
Alejandro Sanchez won the 800-meter with a time of 1:57.19, one spot ahead of teammate Ewert Jansen Van Rensburg, who finished with a time of 2:00.35.
Zach Jones placed among the top nine in three events. He finished sixth in the long jump with a school record mark of 6.47m, he placed seventh in the triple jump with a school record 12.81m jump and finished ninth in the 200-meter with a time of 23.55.
Kim Shabino finished 11th in the 200-meter with a time of 27.05 and placed 11th in the 60-meter prelims with a time of 8.13, while
Rylee Armstrong placed fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 10.81m and also finished fifth in the high jump with a mark of 1.55m.
