Mustang track squads split in Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, S.D. -
The Southwest Minnesota State University women's and men's track teams competed in a dual with Northern State University on Friday night at the Barnett Center. The SMSU men's team earned a 75.5-57.5 victory in 13 events scored, while the NSU women's team picked up a 64-49 win in 11 events.
 
Leading the charge for the SMSU men's team was Alejandro Sanchez, who earned a victory in the 800-meter with a time of 1:55.99, while Albert Rogalski and Zach Jones earned victories in the long jump and triple jump respectively. Rogalski finished with a mark of 6.55m, while Jones won with a jump of 13.62m.
 
Tyler Scotting won the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 7.8, while Alex Weis and Jordan Flinn finished 1-2 in the weight throw. Weis won with a toss of 15.81m, while Flinn recorded a throw of 15.55m.
 
Evan Bonneson captured first place in the mile run with a time of 4:37.39.
 
On the women's side, Rylee Armstrong paced SMSU with a first place mark of 11.34m in the triple jump. Kim Shabino also captured first in the 200-meter with a time of 26.4, finishing ahead of teammate Eisha Oden's second place time of 26.82. Oden won the 400-meter with a time of 1:01.53.
 
Tonight's meet was a final tune-up for both teams as they prepare for next week's NSIC championships in Mankato, Minn., held on Feb. 26-27.
