ST. PETER, Minn. — The Southwest Minnesota State University women's and men's track teams competed at the 14th Annual Drake Alternative Meet hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College on Saturday.
In the women's side, Kim Shabino was spot-lighted in the women's 100 meter dash as she finished third overall with a time of 12.97, while teammate Alycia Hohenstien crossed the line with a time of 13.44 for a sixth place finish.
Shabino also placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.48.
Eisha Oden made her mark in the 400-meter dash as she placed third with a time of 58.75.
Savannah Ramirez finished second in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 12:00.98.
The SMSU women's 4x100-meter relay found its spot on the top of the list after recording a 50.21 mark and claiming the first place spot. Hohenstein, Shabino, Samantha McNeel and Oden make up the relay.
On the men's side,
Ben Ryan finished third in the men's 100-meter dash with a final time of 11.34 and also finished fourth in the 200-meter dash with a 23.08 mark.
In the 400-meter dash,
Alejandro Sanchez earned a fourth place finish with a time of 50.23 while
Chris Kveseth followed behind with a time of 50.84 for a sixth place finish.
Ewert Jansen van Rensburg earned himself a top-five finish in the men's 800-meter run as the freshman placed third with a time of 1:57.32.
Will Hanson found the top of the charts again in the men's 110 meter hurdles with a time of 14.79 while
Austin LaFollette finished second in the men's 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.70.
The SMSU men's 4x100-meter relay also had great success after placing first with a time of 3:21.39. Kveseth, Lafollette, Jansen van Rensburg and Sanchez make up the relay.
A pair of Mustangs found themselves on the top of the list in the men's long jump as
Lucas Woods jumped a 6.71m for a first place finish, while
Zach Jones followed with a 6.49m jump for a second place finish. Both also finished in the top-five in the triple jump as Jones jump 13.54m for a first place finish, while Woods place second with a 13.16m mark.
Will Hanson closed off the events on a high note as the junior finished first in the javelin throw with a distance of 55.58m
The Southwest Minnesota State men's and women's teams will head to Sioux Falls, S.D., for the Dakota Relays on Friday-Saturday.
