SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Southwest Minnesota State University women's and men's track & field teams had several individuals advance to Saturday's finals following the first day of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference/US Bank Outdoor Championships on Friday at the University of Sioux Falls Lillibridge Track & Field Complex.
On the men's side, Ewert Jansen Van Rensburg set a school record in the 1500 meters with a 4:02.68 to advance to the finals.
In the 800 meters,
Alejandro Sanchez advanced to the finals with the fourth best time of 1:55.28, while teammate
Chris Kveseth just missed advancing to the final, but still ran a personal best 1:56.82.
Austin LaFollette will also run on Saturday following a time of 55.25 in the 400 meter hurdles.
Alex Weis placed 11th in both the hammer throw with a mark of 47.08m and the discus with a toss of 44.98m.
Zach Jones and
Lucas Woods had the team's best mark in the long jump both finishing in 13th place at 6.52m.
Dallin Finley had a strong race in the 100 meters placing 12th with a time of 10.90.
For the SMSU women's team,
Kim Shabino advanced to the finals in a pair of events. She ran a 12.29 in the 100 meters and then advanced in the 200 meters with a time of 25.21.
Eisha Oden also advanced to the finals of the 400 meters with a mark of 58.03.
Samantha McNeel placed 16th in the long jump with a jump of 5.35m, while
Amanda Grengs finished 19th in the 1500 meters with a time of 5:07.50.
The second day of the championships will begin at 11 a.m.
