Lizzie Virgl is in her second year as the assistant women's and men's track and field coach in 2020-21.
Virgl came to SMSU after serving as a student assistant coach at her alma mater Southern Illinois University Edwardsville.
Virgl, a 2019 graduate of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, received her bachelor's degree in art and design, art education specialization, where she was a four-year letter winner on the women's track team. Virgil set the school record on weight throw on Feb. 23, 2018, and also captured the 2018 Ohio Valley Conference outdoor title in the hammer. She also appeared in four conference championships during her tenure and placed in the top 10 in hammer, javelin and discus.
In February 2019, Virgl competed at the Toyota USA Track and Field Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M. Virgl competed in the weight throw after her personal best ross of 19.64m ranked her 12th among the competitors at the championship.
Virgl is pursuing her master's degree at SMSU.
