SMSU Athletic Training
The Southwest Minnesota State University athletics department has a committed sports medicine department to serve the needs of SMSU student-athletes. Under the direction of head athletic trainer, Amy Schmiesing, the department focuses on prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for all student-athletes at SMSU.
Located in the Bellows Academic building (which connects to the Physical Education building, where the locker rooms are located), the training room includes numerous rehabilitation devices, including four training tables, each equipped with an electrical stim/ultrasound machine. Also in the training room is a large taping table, two ice machines, two whirlpools, and many rehab devices such as rubberbands, weights, medicine balls, stationary bikes and much more.
