NSIC Player of the Week: Thanks to a 10-4 start, that has included wins over two ranked opponents, the Mustangs have received plenty of recognition from the conference office. SMSU has won four NSIC Player of the Week awards, which is the most of the eight teams in the league. Regan French is the most recent Mustangs to earn the honors. The senior forward picked up the award on January 3 after helping SMSU defeat ninth-ranked UND. Michelle Bruns is the other player to receive recognition from the conference. She has won the award on three separate occasions; November 22, November 29 and December 13.
1,000 Equals 15: Senior Regan French is approaching the 1,000 point milestone in her career. The Marshall native currently has 884 career points and needs to average 11.6 points per game to achieve the milestone in the regular season. If French does reach the 1,000 point mark, she would become the 15th player in SMSU history to accomplish the feat.
Rebounding Duo: Kristin Hairstons performance last weekend moved her into second place in the NSIC in rebounding. The junior center is averaging 6.6 boards per game. In conference play she is averaging 7.3 rebounds per game, which is first in the NSIC. Teammate Regan French also ranks among the NSICs top rebounders, as her 5.9 boards per game is seventh in the league.

The Mustangs top defensive effort in terms of points allowed came when SMSU held Minnesota-Morris to just 42 points. Four times this season the Mustangs have held an opponent under 50 points.
The Inside Force: Last weekend Kristin Hairston made her presence known after her inside play. Against Bemidji State she had nine rebounds and one blocked shot, then followed that with 12 rebounds and four blocked shots against Minnesota-Crookston. The senior forward had 14 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Mustangs.
Southwest Minnesota State at Home: Since the opening of the R/A Facility in 1996, the Mustangs have proved theres no place like home. SMSU has posted a 70-29 record since 1996, including this season, for a winning percentage of .707.
Post Producing Wins: Southwest Minnesota States post play has been pivotal in their wins this season. In the eight games that Kristin Hairston has either scored in double figures or grabbed 10 or more rebounds, the Mustangs have posted a 7-1 record. The one loss that SMSU suffered was when she scored 12 points in just 19 minutes at St. Cloud State. SMSUs other post threat, Regan French, has also translated strong play into Mustang wins. French has scored in double figures in ten games, with the Mustangs winning all eight of the ten games. She has posted one double-double, and that came in SMSUs win over then-ranked nine North Dakota.

The Mustangs started the season with a 7-0 record, which was the schools best start since they went 8-0 to start the 1974-75 season. After starting 7-0 the Mustangs lost their next four, before they snapped their losing streak by defeating Arkansas Tech which then spawned a three-game winning streak.
Career-High for Tasca: Sophomore Betsy Tasca set a new career-high for rebounding in the Mustangs loss at Augustana (SD).
