Hutter Resigns as Interim Head Coach to Take Over at Mayville State

Mayville, N.D.: Southwest Minnesota State University interim head womens basketball coach Dennis Hutter has resigned to become the new head coach of womens basketball at Mayville State University (N.D.). Hutter, who for the past three seasons has served as an assistant, becomes just the fourth head coach in the schools 21 years.

During his three seasons at SMSU, 2002-05, Hutter helped guide the Mustangs to a 53-35 record which included a 19-10 record this past season. Over those three years he was responsible for the teams post players while coaching an NSIC Player of the Year, an All-America player, two all-region players and five all-conference players.

Hutter earned his his bachelors degree from Bethel College and is in the process of completing his masters degree from SMSU. Prior to coming to Southwest, Hutter was the head girls basketball coach at Centennial High School and took his team to back-to-back conference championships in his four years there. His teams collected a 64-28 record during his time at Centennial as he was named the 2001 Region 4AAAA Coach of the Year.

Southwest Minnesota State has begun their search for a new head coach.

Southwest Minnesota State University is a member of NCAA Division II and competes in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
