No. 7 SMSU Falls to No. 4 Concordia St. Paul in Four

MARSHALL, MINN.:  The No. 4 ranked Concordia-St. Paul was led by Emily Palkert's 21 kills in the 3-1(30-25, 30-32, 25-30, 27-30) victory over No. 7 Southwest Minnesota State University on Friday evening in Marshall, Minn.

The Mustangs fall to 19-5 overall and 10-2 in the conference with the loss, while Concordia St. Paul improves to 24-2 on the season and 13-1 in the NSIC.   The Golden Bears are now the NSIC leaders, as they are the only team with one loss.

Concordia St. Paul only had a .176 hitting percentage but the Mustangs also only hit .156 in the match.  The Mustangs had four players record double-digits kills as Erin Contons led the way with 16 kills. (11E, 53 attacks, .094%).
 

Tricia Ingvalson led the team with a .409 hitting percentage as she racked up 10 kills with just one error in 22 attempts.  Krystal Schwanke also had a strong showing as she knocked down 12 kills and had a .321 hitting percentage.  Laura Hegerle, who was second on the team in kills, tallied 13 along with nine digs.

Defensively, the Mustangs were led by Sarah Quiram who had a team-high 16 digs while Contons and Sara Graf each added 12.  Graf led the Mustangs with 48 set assists.

The Mustangs out-blocked CSP 15-to14 in the match as Schwanked led the way with seven block assists and Leah Ashburn had six.

SMSU will be back in action tomorrow afternoon facing Minnesota State University Moorhead at 3 p.m. in the PE Gym.
