No. 8 SMSU Sweeps St. Cloud State

MARSHALL, MINN.:  The No.8-ranked Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs had three players earn double-digit kills in the sweep over St. Cloud State University on Tuesday night in Marshall. 

SMSU won by scores of 30-20, 30-18, and 30-15. The Mustangs really took it to the Huskies as they were ahead at one time by 11 points (15-9) in the second game and then pulled out to an early lead in game three as they acquired a 15-1 lead.

SMSU improves to 15-4 overall while SCSU falls to 7-11 on the season. 

The Mustangs were led by Tricia Ingvalson who had a team-high .500 hitting percentage racking up 15 kills in 28 attempts with only one error.  Laura Hegerle also had a great game as she slammed down 14 kills and recorded her fourth double-double performance of the season as she added 11 digs.  Erin Contons was the third SMSU player with double-digit kills adding 13.

The Mustangs attack force was rounded out by Leah Ashburn with seven and Krystal Schwanke contributing six kills while also recording a team-high three blocks.

On defense SMSU was led by a stellar performance from Sarah Quiram who tallied a career-high 31 digs.  Setter Sara Graf had her ninth double-double of the season with 15 digs and 48 set assists.

As a team the Mustangs had a .333 hitting percentage while holding the Huskies to a .102 hitting percentage. 

SMSU will be back in action this weekend when they travel to play Bemidji State on Friday at 7 p.m. and then take on Minnesota Crookston on Sat. at 5 p.m.
