Mustangs Sweep Minnesota, Crookston

MARSHALL, MINN.: 
The No. 7 Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs had a .396 team-hitting percentage with 55 kills in the 3-0 (30-18, 30-22, 30-17) victory over Minnesota, Crookston on Friday evening.

The Mustangs improve to 21-6 overall and 12-3 in the conference with the win while Minnesota Crookston is now 6-21 overall and 3-13 in conference play.

SMSU was led by Erin Contons who had a .480 hitting percentage with 12 kills, zero errors in 25 attacks.  Leah Ashburn also had a great night with a .450 hitting percentage and 11 total kills.  Laura Hegerle added 10 kills for the Mustangs while Tricia Ingvalson and Krystal Schwanke each had nine. 

The Mustangs were led defensively by Sarah Quiram, who was the only Mustang to record double-digit digs as she tallied 11. 

Sara Graf led the team with 46 set assists and had a team-high hitting percentage of .600 as she had three kills in five attempts.

Southwest finished the match with 55 kills compared to UMC's 31, out-blocked the Golden Eagles 5-to-4 and were only one service ace away from tying the season high as SMSU recorded 11.

SMSU will be back in action tomorrow against Bemidji State at 4:30 p.m.
