Mustang Volleyball Pounds Bemidji State 3-0

MARSHALL, MINN.:  No. 7 Southwest Minnesota State's senior Tricia Ingvalson tied her career kill record and led the team with 19 kills and a .680 hitting percentage in the 3-0 (30-10, 30-17, 30-20) victory over Bemidji State University on Saturday afternoon in Marshall, Minn.

The Mustangs improve to 22-6 overall and 13-3 in the NSIC while BSU falls to 9-15 overall and 5-12 in conference play.

SMSU tied its season high hitting percentage having a .400 percent compared to Bemdiji's -.058.  The last time the Mustangs earned a .400 hitting percentage was versus Upper Iowa on Sept. 28.  SMSU had two players earn  double-digit kills as Ingvalson led the team with 19 and senior Erin Contons added 14. 

Southwest's Leah Ashburn  tallied seven kills with a .462 hitting percentage.  She broke her career record for blocks as she led the team with nine total blocks.  Laura Hegerle rounded out the hitting attack with six kills on the night.

The Mustangs out-blocked the Beavers 16-to-3 as Krystal Schwanke was second on the team with eight blocks while Contons had five and Ingvalson and Hegerle each added four.

SMSU's Sara Graf recorded 41 set assists and 10 digs, while the defense was led by Sarah Quiram and Contons who each had 13 digs.

Southwest will be back in action next weekend when they travel to play Winona State and Upper Iowa.  On Friday, SMSU will play WSU, who is currently third in the conference, at 7 p.m. and then take on UIU on Saturday at 3 p.m.
