SMSU Cruises Past Mayville State 77-57

MARSHALL, MINN.:
  The Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs remain undefeated as they cruised past Mayville State with a 77-57 victory on Friday evening in Marshall, Minn.

The Mustangs improve to 3-0 overall, which is the first time since the 2004-05 season that SMSU has started out with a 3-0 record.  Mayville State falls to 3-4 overall on the season. 

SMSU was led by juniors Sara Leidall and Megan Wittkop who each scored 15 points.  Leidall was 7-for-14 from the field and grabbed five rebounds while Wittkop went 4-for-8 from the field and made three 3-pointers while going a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe.

The Mustangs had two other players also record double-digit points.  Sophomore Liz Grider had 13 points, while Megan Stadler had 11 points as she hit three 3-pointers and came down with four rebounds.

SMSU's Abby Oakland had a career-high nine assists.  Southwest was led on the boards by Wittkop and Leidall who each had five.

SMSU finished the game with a 37.7 shooting percentage, while shooting 48.5 percent in the second half.  The Mustangs out-rebounded Mayville State 40-to-39, grabbing 12 offensive boards compared to the Comets' six offensive boards.

Southwest will be back in action tomorrow against Dakota State at 6 p.m. in the R/A Facility
