SMSU Sweep Mary to Advance to the NSIC Semifinals

MARSHALL, MINN.:  The No. 9 Southwest Minnesota State Mustangs advance to the NSIC semifinals with a 3-0 victory over University of Mary (30-19, 30-22, 30-20) on Tuesday evening in Marshall, Minn.

The Mustangs will play on Friday, Nov. 9 in St. Paul, Minn. facing No. 3 Wayne State College at 5 p.m.  The Mustangs now post a 25-6 overall record while University of Mary concludes its season with a 12-14 record.

SMSU was led by an impressive performance from Leah Ashburn who finished the match with 14 kills, zero errors on 21 attack attempts for a career-high .667 hitting percentage.  Erin Contons led the team with 16 kills and had 13 digs.  Tricia Ingvalson also had double-digit kills with 12 and had a .379 hitting percentage.

Southwest had a team hitting percentage of .333 while holding Mary to .157.  The Mustangs out-blocked the Marauders 6-to-3.  SMSU's Ingvalson led the team with five blocks (4 assists, 1 solo) University of Mary was led by Ashley Maas who had a team high 14 kills.

On defense, SMSU was led by Sarah Quiram who had 15 digs, while Contons added 13 and Krystal Schwanke had a career-high 11 digs.

SMSU's setter Sara Graf had 43 set assists with six kills and eight digs.

Southwest will face No. 3 Wayne State on Friday at 5 p.m. held at No. 1 Concordia St. Paul in St. Paul, Minn.
